The government has pledged to extend financial support to small holder business owner grouped under the Kicking out poverty Kampala [CBOs] or Community based organizations
The remarks were made by the senior presidential mobilizer on poverty eradication and development Pastor Robert Mbabazi while officiating at the launching of the Kick out Poverty Kampala CBOs which daylong event was held at Kawempe growers grounds.
The event featured an exhibition where dozens of different locally made products by the CBOs were on displayed marking a significant shift in new innovation in small holder manufacturing processes.
Mbabazi pointed out that he was excited to see that the over 3,000 members in attendance can locally innovate in the manufacture of many different household use products such as liquid soap, arts and crafts, knitting products, confectionery, hospitality services, tailoring among others.
He observed these development indicators highlight the need for the government to financially empower such people to better manufacture quality products for export.
Mbabazi pledged to deliver the report to the president for further action however challenged the youth to seek skills development training opportunities being offered at several presidential skilling of the boy/girl child Initiatives within the Kampala Metropolitan area for Kawempe being at Wandegeya, Mulago and Sub way near UBC along Nile avenue among others.
The NRM flag bearer for Kawempe division mayoral seat Farouk Bulime pointed out that he would ensure that the youth who are the majority and jobless are given financial literacy packages to get empowered to fight poverty.
The Kick out poverty Kampala CBO national coordinator Robert Kizza Ssebagala and his chairman Mutebi Yasin thanked the president for supporting youth empowerment programs but called for more support to their CBO because it was well organized but lacked the necessary funding to engage in high income projects.
They also voiced their request to the prime minister Robinah Nabbanja who was supposed to be chief guest but failed to show up to take up their report and ensure their funding proposal was given due consideration.
