Police are holding eight suspects in connection with the aggravated robbery of Shs242m from the cashier of the hardware in Rubaga Division, Kampala City. The arrests follow significant progress in the investigation into the violent robbery, which occurred on August 22, 2025, in Kakeeka Zone, Rubaga Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, a group of thugs armed with pangas and riding on five motorcycles ambushed Mr. Kisitu Ausi, an accountant at Give and Take Hardware.
The suspects violently intercepted him as he was transporting the money to the bank. Fortunately, neither Mr Kisitu nor his motorcycle rider was injured during the attack.
“Through swift, intelligence-led operations, detectives analyzed CCTV footage and other investigative leads, which led to the arrest of the suspects,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.
He identified suspects who were arrested and charged as Bakunda Steven, alias Kevin, Atwine Robert Kiiza, alias Mzee Lubuto, Andebuni Brian, alias Junior Black, Musuza Raymond, alias Caesar, Ssali Andrew, alias Ande Swag, Kanyerezi
Stanley, Nsubuga Andrew, and Aboth Shivan Alecho.
“During the operations, we recovered Shs105m, a motorcycle believed to have been purchased using proceeds from the robbery, and a black laptop bag containing vouchers and receipts from Give and Take Hardware. These items were positively identified by the complainant,” said Owoyesigyire.
The suspects are facing charges of Aggravated Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Being Accessories After the Fact to a Felony.
Owoyesigyire said that investigations are ongoing to trace additional accomplices who remain at large. “We reassure the public that such violent crimes will be thoroughly pursued to their conclusion. We commend our officers for their dedication and the progress already made in this case,” he stated.
All suspects are expected to appear before the Mwanga II Chief Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday, September 11, 2025.
